TUMON, GUAM – May 23, 2012 As Hilton Guam Resort & Spa celebrates its 40th anniversary, the team also recognized another 40th year celebrant: Frank Gomez, Laundry manager at Hilton Guam Resort & Spa.
Frank Gomez has been with Hilton Guam Resort & Spa since its beginning in 1972. Starting off as a night auditor, Frank was then transferred to a daytime position in the laundry department. "I started from the bottom," says Frank.
Since then, Frank has moved his way up the ranks in the Laundry department, and even received professional training in New York. "I was sent to Cornell University School of Hotel Administration, where I finished a course in Housekeeping and Laundry management," he says, reminiscing.
Being part of the Hilton team gave Frank opportunities for training and travel. Frank received training at numerous Hilton properties, including Hilton hotels in Canada, Japan, Washington D.C. and his most favorite of his travels, China. "I was selected as part of the opening team to assist the Hilton Beijing (Mainland China) and Hilton Nanjing." The trips created an impact on Frank, with one memory stands out the most: "To see and walk the Great Wall of China and Tianemen square... it's price less," he says.
Though Hilton Guam Resort & Spa gave Frank once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, he credits the Hilton team members for his loyalty to the brand. "Because of my staff’s support and dedication in our department, we produce fine teamwork; I am very proud of them all. I could not do it without them," he says.
An inspiration to all, the 40-year employee often encourages his team with these words: "Work hard, be patient and resilient. Do your best in whatever you do".
