On February 19, 2010, Senator Jim Webb of Virginia hosted a press conference at the Hilton Guam Resort & Spa, to discuss issues linked to the planned realignment of U.S. military bases in Asia. The press conference was arranged in Hilton's oceanfront "Gallery" meeting space, and marked the conclusion of Webb's regional tour, which had brought him to Japan and the U.S. territories of Guam, Saipan and Tinian.
Already a regional home to the U.S. Air Force, Navy and many other government agencies, Guam will be soon welcoming the U.S. Marines, who are relocating from Okinawa, Japan. Local NBC-TV affiliate KUAM News reported that, "Webb held a press conference this evening at the Hilton Hotel to discuss his conclusions and the message he intends to bring back with him to Washington, D.C." Senator Webb is a member of the U.S. Senate's Armed Services Committee.
Webb had arrived on Hilton property a few days earlier, and was personally greeted by Hilton General Manager Nicolaus Priesnitz and Director of Sales Shiela Shedd. "Hilton Guam is always pleased to welcome distinguished guests," says Shedd.
